Hipp, Inguanti, Sasso win big in Rutherford

Breaking News

RUTHERFORD (Nov. 7, 2007) — The people have spoken loud and clear: Out with the Democrats.

Republicans reigned supreme in the borough, taking every seat that was up for grabs. John Hipp will replace Bernadette P. McPherson as mayor, and Hipp’s running mates, Rose Inguanti and John Sasso will join him on the dais, replacing Councilmen Ray Frazier and Richard Reyes.

Mayoral-elect John Hipp and council-elects Rose Inguanti and John Sasso celebrate their victories after hearing the election results Nov. 6.

Unofficial results put Hipp in first with 3,708 votes; Inguanti and Sasso each logged 3,683. Frazier followed with 1,668 votes, McPherson with 1,632, and Reyes with 1,577.

“I think this is a victory for all of you,” Hipp told his cheering supporters. “We have a lot of work to do.”

“Taxes and EnCap” were the deciding issues, Hipp said. His team plans to start working on the borough’s budget immediately. He thanked the people of Rutherford and promised, “We will not let you down.”

John Daub, Rutherford’s Republican chair, called the victory “historic, if not monumental … Rutherford is again officially a Republican town, top to bottom,” he added.

Across town, the mood was more somber. McPherson said that taxes were the key issue for voters. “There always was a very real difference,” between her team and Hipp’s, McPherson said, adding that the residents had made a “clear choice.”

“Rutherford made a very bad decision tonight,” said Denise Ross, Rutherford’s Democrat municipal chair.

At the county level, Michael Guarino defeated Paul Sarlo in Rutherford, 2,922 to 2,144; Carmine Pio Costa and Don Diorio got more votes for assembly (2,911 to 2,958) than Gary Schaer and Fred Scalera (1937 to 2017 ). For sheriff, Harry Shortway defeated Leo McGuire, 2717 to 2140, and the Republican freeholder candidates Charles Kahwaty (2,954), Robert Yudin (2,896), and Paul Duggan (2,975) swept Jim Carroll (1,901), Tom Padilla (1,881), and Liz Calabrese (1,909).

Denise if you think Rutherford made a bad decision does that mean you and all the McPherson family will move out of town? (Please) Also, just remember it was you and your politics that left Rutherford worse off then when you first got into power. Rutherford woke up and did the right thing.

The only reason Denise thinks it was a bad decision is because she's about to be out of a job, and Robin with the RDP is not far behind her, and I say GOOD! Stop wasting taxpayer money by giving McPherson's buddies cushy jobs.

Her career is DEAD!

It is quite obvious what Burn-a-debt did for Rutherford. She showed horrible fiscal irresponsibility.

When you or I get into debt do we go into more debt and keep buying things we don't really need or do we tighten our belts? When you or I get into debt do we pay a friend thousands of dollars to help his company and its employees provide games and rides that aren't NEEDED for street fairs, etc.? When we have money problems do we offer people that work for us much higher salaries that are obiously far beyond the market dictates?

When asked about any of those things in council meetings were they ever answered open and honestly or were snippy answers provided? Instead of offering facts or any evidence she basically resorted to 2nd grade tactics calling the person asking the quesiton a liar. If Burn-a-debt's intentions were truely in the best interest of Rutherford why didn't she EVER open up and provide some facts to back up her often voiced OPINION?

Here's the reason ... when the facts don't support you it is best to run a stealth campaign. See ... she really didn't want everyone in Rutherford knowing her real connection to Encap. She didn't want people in Rutherford getting the real facts on the sweet deal Cliffhanger was given. She's lucky she got 1,000 votes. If everything actually came out the only people that would have voted for her would have been her appointees and relatives.

It is quite obvious by the landslide spanking Burn-a-debt and her cronies got that people in Rutherford are completly fed up with the way things have been run. If Burn-a-debt actually had ANY facts to back up her position she had ample time to provide them. Even now, in defeat all she can do is slander the people who defeated her. The people of Rutherford have proved to be more than reasonable and have given her a lot of time to get the situation under control. She didn't and now the many overpaid political apointees are trying to run a smear campaign. Sorry ... we're onto you. Maybe you could move on to some other more naive town but we aren't buying what you're selling anymore.

did the overpayment to cliffhanger ever get repaid. maybe it was going back to her as a campaign contribution. someone please investigate and maybe its time for a audit of all his bills and her spending.
